Mobile Vehicle Roadworthy Certificates for

Cars, Trailers Motorcycles & Trucks

Mobile Roadworthy

A Roadworthy Certificate is required when you are selling a car, motorbike, trailer or truck that is registered in Queensland before you advertise the vehicle for sale. A Roadworthy Certificate is also required when you are registering an unregistered vehicle or transferring a vehicle from one state to another.

An Approved Person that is accredited by Queensland Transport and Main Roads conducts the inspection for the Roadworthy Certificate. Mobile inspections are available in Queensland that allows an Approved Mobile Unit to attend your vehicle either at home, work or wherever it may be located at the time of inspection.

Not all examiners can complete inspections on all classes of vehicles.

M1 Safety Certificates® mobile units are fully equipped to complete the inspection on site. All we require is access to the vehicle at the time of inspection.

Our friendly and experienced team take the time to make sure that your vehicle is safe and road worthy in line with the guidelines set in the Code of Practice by Queensland Transport and Main Roads.

The inspection is a basic check that the vehicle meets these minimum standards. This does not mean that the vehicle is in perfect working order. An example of this is a vehicle will pass a Roadworthy Certificate Inspection if an oil leak is present but is not dripping onto the road surface or onto the exhaust at the time of inspection.

If there are any defects that need repairs the Transport Department allows you 14 days to complete the repairs. This includes weekends and public holidays.

Within that time, once completed, contact M1 Safety Certificates office on to make an appointment for a re-inspection. A re-inspection fee does apply for mobile services.

If the vehicle meets all the requirements on the first inspection, you are issued the Roadworthy Certificate on the spot.

Top tips for selling a Vehicle

  •  When writing a receipt for the buyer always put the time and date on the invoice that the buyer takes possession of the vehicle. This protects you in the circumstance that the buyer runs any tolls or speeding fines on the way home then you have a signed document with the time as proof that you were not the driver of the vehicle from that date and time.

  •  If you are selling your vehicle to an interstate buyer always deregister the vehicle before handing them the keys. Take the plates off the car. The buyer can purchase permits in any of the states that the vehicle is being driven through to get the vehicle home in that time period. If the buyer has your plates on the vehicle and does not send you the receipt for the plates being handed into the local Transport Department you cannot deregister or cancel the registration. This costs you money in lost registration refund and time spent on filling out statutory declarations for speeding fines and tolls.

  •  If the vehicle is not registered you do not have to provide a Roadworthy Certificate. This is the only way to be able to sell a vehicle in Queensland without one.

  •  Get a Roadworthy Inspection completed before advertising the vehicle for sale. There may be underlying issues with the vehicle that you need to spend money on to pass. It is best to know about these first before committing to a price with a buyer.

  • Don’t lose a sale because you don’t have a valid Roadworthy Certificate ready to go. Many buyers are looking at vehicles over the weekends and at night. They have a lot to choose from due to the Internet and may pick another vehicle over yours because of the urgency of the sale to take place. If Sunday is the only day they can pick up and you are not ready they may go elsewhere.
