Do you ever wonder why your tyres are scrubbed or worn on the inside/outside edges?
Scrubbed out tyres basically cost you more money due to replacing the tyres early.
The cause of this issue stems from a wheel alignment being incorrect.
Many things can affect your wheel alignment.
Potholes, road shock, bumping concrete park stops and curbing gutters can alter your alignment without you even noticing.
However, you may not realise but not all wheel alignments are the same.
Some wheel alignments will only check and adjust the toe on your front tyres. This may not be the correct adjustment needed to eliminate the issue you have experienced.
Therefore, a thorough wheel alignment that cover all aspects of adjustment is key to getting the full life out of your tyres.
With our highly qualified technicians and state-of-the-art HawkEye Elite® Wheel Aligner your wheel alignment checks should occur around the same time as your service intervals.
When a wheel alignment is carried out on a vehicle there are different angles of the tyre that need to be aligned to wear evenly.
The thrust angle is an imaginary line drawn perpendicular to the rear axle’s centerline. It compares the direction that the rear axle is aimed with the centerline of the vehicle. It also confirms if the rear axle is parallel to its front axle and that the wheelbase on both sides of the vehicle is the same. It is one of the most important diagnostic angles during an alignment.
To measure the thrust angle on a vehicle you have to perform a four-wheel alignment. Even if the rear axle is non-adjustable, you need to take rear axle readings to properly align the front suspension.
A total four-wheel alignment is the ultimate wheel alignment service.
The individual rear toe is measured, then adjusted to the factory specifications. This adjustment brings the thrust line of the rear wheels line with the vehicle’s centreline. The front wheels are then aligned to the identical centreline/thrust line.
A total four-wheel alignment results in all four wheels being parallel, with the steering wheel and steering geometry being centred as the vehicle moves in a straight line.
Toe in is the measurement of the wheels from the top of the vehicle on the wheels pointing inwards.
Toe out is the measurement of the wheels from the top of the vehicle on the wheels pointing outwards.
Negative Camber is the measurement of the wheels when looking at the front of the vehicle if the top wheels are tilting inwards vertical.
Positive Camber is the measurement of the wheels when looking at the front of the vehicle if the top wheels are tilting outwards vertical.
Correct camber is the measurement of the wheels when both top and bottom are equally the same distance.
Negative Castor is the measurement of the wheels when looking at the front of the vehicle if the top wheels are tilting inwards vertical.
Positive Castor is the measurement of the wheels when looking at the front of the vehicle if the top wheels are tilting outwards vertical.
Correct castor is the measurement of the wheels when both top and bottom are equally the same distance.
Having one or more of these measurements out of alignment can dramatically change the wear on your tyres.
That is to say the quality of the wheel alignment depends on the equipment and expertise of the aligner.
As the technology in our cars becomes more complex as does the machinery to adjust those components.
A wheel alignment carried out at our store only uses the most powerful wheel alignment equipment on the market.
We will also have a printout of the adjustments required. Our friendly team will explain where your vehicle currently is and what adjustments need to be made to bring the vehicle back into alignment.
Wheel alignments are carried out with the latest technology with our HawkEye Elite® Wheel Aligner.
The wheel aligner uses four precision 3d cameras to measure the position and orientation of the targets mounted to each wheel using the QuickGrip® adaptors.
This system eliminates the metal-to-metal contact when aligning the wheels that causes rim damage.
The system will then provide you with a print out of the current alignment and the adjustments that are required to bring the vehicle’s wheels back into alignment.
HawkEye Elite® is the most powerful wheel alignment equipment on the market.
